APRIL 24 TIPS AND TECHNIQUES MEETING – BERGEN PARK FIRE STATION 7:00pm (6:30pm social time) PHOTOSHOP CLASS

We have a Photoshop instructor, John Harris. One of his current roles is Information Technology Director at Reed Imaging. This will be a fee-based class at $35 lasting approximately 3 hours. John would like to base his instruction in Photoshop with ECC member images. If you opt to take this class, you may submit one of your untouched images that has been a challenge for you with question(s) that he may use in his Photoshop instruction. We will set up a way for you to submit your image to him soon. This class will be at the Evergreen Fire Administration Building.

Here is his bio:

With a father who was an amateur photographer perfectionist, seeking a profession in photography was almost a given. Starting in the industry when film was still king, John learned photography production and image-composition from the best in the business. Grateful for past representations by several galleries, and with several one-man shows to his credit, John is a down-to earth artist who is also a master digital printer. All driven by his passion for photography as an art form. His extensive experience in the photo services arena, knack for creating gallery level prints, and eye for image-sweetening are sought by renowned photographers and artists across the country for gallery and museum presentations. John’s skills as a digital artist have been used by Fortune 500 type companies such as; Martin Marietta, Rockwell International, Cessna, Chevrolet, Coors Brewery, Anheuser Busch, Chanel, Quaker Foods, McDonald’s and many others, while his digital tutelage has been sought out by national photographers for Sports Illustrated, Time, People, etc.

An in-progress series on high-iso night photography is expected to be completed mid-2013, as well as, a series on small towns in Colorado. Topics I often like to discuss
Is your way of thinking causing you issues in Photoshop?
Using color and density as a post-capture compositional tool.
Common mistakes made by the pros as well as the consumer.
Thinking digitally before pressing the shutter.
Are you damaging your images by using auto white-balance?
You might be astonished at just how inaccurately your camera captures color.
Why you might be wasting your time with 16bit workflows.

This class will be focused on image optimization for photographers so here is…
What I won’t be covering:
Image restoration
Drum and or flatbed scanning
Design related features such as smart objects, text tools, drop shadows, graphical filter effects, etc.
Video and animation in Photoshop
Storage and organizational workflows. Everyone’s needs differ greatly in this arena, and while we can discuss touch on storage and retrieval workflows, what works for one person may be in direct conflict of the next individuals specific needs. This is best handled either one-on-one or in a setting of common photographer types. I.e. professional portrait photographers in one group, fine art shooters in another group, hobbyists in a group and “croppers” in another group, etc.
