Bio of Harry Sherwood
Harry’s photographic adventure actually started in 1968 when he bought his first 35 mm single lens reflex Topcon camera in Bangkok, Thailand. It wasn’t until several years later that he actually learned how to use the camera after joining a camera club in Southern California. Soon after joining one camera club, he eventually was a member of several camera clubs in Southern California. These clubs were members of S4C and PSA (Southern California Council of Camera Clubs and Photographic Society of America). After several years, he eventually was honored as AFS4C (Associate Fellow of S4C) and then DFS4C (Distinguished Fellow of S4C). He was active in judging and putting on programs at camera clubs throughout the LA area.
This then led to also competing in International Competitions, affiliated with PSA, where he obtained 3 Stars in Color, 2 Stars in Nature and 1 Star in Photo-travel divisions and was asked to put on a program of Africa at a regional meeting of PSA. He, and his wife at the time, were chairman of an El Camino International competition. They participated in many international competitions held in the Southern California area over the years and Harry had been invited to judge 3 international competitions. The highest honor he received in an international competition was ‘Best of Show in Contemporary Photography’.
Fast forward to Colorado and there was a ad in the High Timber Times to start a camera club several years ago. Long story short, while he was in Florida, playing ‘snow bird’ for 4 months, he was voted the president of the club and Annie Coppock and Harry were busy for 2 years putting the club together. They started with about 7 members which included current members Doug and Betty Holling and the club has grown over the years since then.
Two years ago, he took his sister Sharon to Australia for her birthday, and they had a fabulous two week adventure that he would love to share with the club. “Harry does the Outback”
