Breaking Out of the Box: Finding Your Own Photos Even in a Crowd
Steamboat Springs photojournalist Joel Reichenberger will present “Breaking Out of the Box: Finding Your Own Photos Even in a Crowd” at the June 8th Evergreen Camera Club meeting.
As a photojournalist in Ski Town, USA® — hometown to over 80 Winter Olympic athletes since 1932 — Joel has had some amazing photographic opportunities: most recently at the 2014 Sochi, Russia Olympics. “One of the big ideas I came away with from shooting the Olympics was how important it is to have your own vision for how to shoot various events. Some of my favorite stuff came when I found a way to ‘mix it up’ and break outside of those planned boxes.”
Joel grew up in south central Kansas, the son of a professional photographer and journalist. He got his start taking photos by picking up a few small jobs his dad pitched his way. After graduating from Kansas State University with majors in print journalism and electronic journalism, Joel reported and photographed sports stories for two small weekly newspapers in the Kansas City suburbs. His interest in photojournalism grew quickly and by the time he was hired by the Steamboat Springs paper two years later, he was already an accomplished photographer.
Since moving to Steamboat, Joel has photographed everything from Friday night football games to the Winter Olympics and the X Games.
