Title: Why Figure Photography is an Important Part of any Photographer’s Education
Michael Fulks has been a professional photographer and photo educator for
over 25 years. He is presently one of the Lead Photography Instructors in
the Multimedia Graphics and Photography Department at Red Rocks Community
College (RRCC) in Lakewood, Colorado. His courses at RRCC include
Commercial Studio Lighting, Digital Darkroom, Figure Photography, Digital
Photography, Perception and Imaging, Professional Inkjet Printing, and

Title: Why Figure Photography is an Important Part of any Photographer’s Education
Michael Fulks has been a professional photographer and photo educator for
over 25 years. He is presently one of the Lead Photography Instructors in
the Multimedia Graphics and Photography Department at Red Rocks Community
College (RRCC) in Lakewood, Colorado. His courses at RRCC include
Commercial Studio Lighting, Digital Darkroom, Figure Photography, Digital
Photography, Perception and Imaging, Professional Inkjet Printing, and
Portraiture. Fulks also organizes photographic expeditions overseas every
year for students and the community. This year, they travelled to Cuba in
June.
As a professional photographer he owned and operated Photography by Fulks, a
full service photo studio in Conifer, Colorado until retiring in 2004.
Over the years he has been a judge for local photo competitions and has been
one of the judges for the International Black and White Spider Awards.
In 1995, Fulks founded Apogee Photography Magazine (www.apogeephoto.com). It
is the oldest continuing online magazine for photography. He was the
publisher until 2004. He has written over 40 articles for Apogee Photo
Magazine as well as other international publications including one in Italy.
He also co-authored, with Thom Harrop, The Complete Digital Photography
Primer, an introduction to digital photography textbook.
