The John Fielder’s Colorado Collection is Now Available to the Public!

A collection of more than 6,500 images showcases and immortalizes the breathtaking vistas of the Centennial State and the need to preserve them. History Colorado is elated to announce that John Fielder’s Colorado Collection is now publicly available. Composed of more than 6,500 photographs and objects donated to History Colorado by premier landscape photographer and renowned conservationist John Fielder, this collection immortalizes the landscapes of every county in the state and represents a life dedicated to the preservation and protection of Colorado’s public lands.

With this collection now digitally available, the public can begin accessing it through the History Colorado Online Collection where they can look over the entirety of the more than 6,500 images and objects, or explore curated lists on https://www.historycolorado.org/john-fielders-colorado-collection webpage that allow them to follow in Fielder’s footsteps by exploring specific counties. In addition to viewing the collection online, the public will be able to request hi-res digital copies of these images through the Stephen H. Hart Research Center at a nominal fee.

One location stands above the rest of the 104,000 square miles he visited during his 50 years as a nature photographer. Curated in collaboration with John himself, History Colorado’s exhibition “REVEALED: John Fielder’s Favorite Place” takes you to a location that few have ever experienced, a location John feels is the most sublime in all of the Centennial State. You can view this exhibit in person until February 11, 2024.

Beginning January 25th, 2024 there will be another Fielder exhibit titled “On the River”.
History Colorado is located at 1200 N. Broadway, Denver, CO. 80203.

Not only is there an opportunity to shoot acres of gorgeous flowers at Chatfield Farms, but there is also an incredible sculpture to immerse yourself in and shoot!

Dougherty’s immersive sculpture at Chatfield Farms in Littleton, CO is created by weaving flexible saplings and branches into a complex and whimsical architectural form.

Visitors may view and move through the work in a grassy clearing near the Earl J. Sinnamon Center and the Deer Creek Stables.

Bring the kids! Great opportunity for family portraits!

About the Artist
Dougherty earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of North Carolina and a master’s in hospital and health administration from the University of Iowa. Later, he returned to the University of North Carolina to study art history and sculpture. Dougherty has created more than 250 installations, with works exhibited at the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery, Washington, D.C.; the Mint Museum, North Carolina; the Castle of the Dukes of Brittany, France and the American Embassy in Belgrade, Serbia.

by Tina Disorbio
Ansel Adams – “The Early Years” at Botanic Gardens, now through October 11

Discover the early work of renowned landscape photographer Ansel Adams in this exhibition of intimate yet majestic photos of the American West.  Known best for his high-contrast photos made in the 1970s and 1980s, Adams’ earlier prints feature a softer focus, smaller scale and warmer tones, providing a glimpse into the evolution of the photographer’s signature style. This collection spans the 1920s-1950s and features a number of Adams’ finest photographs of Yosemite National Park and other Western landscapes.

Enjoy the Ansel Adams exhibition and then explore the gardens to create your own photographic masterpieces!  For more information go HERE
