OCTOBER 2018 T&T: Mounting Photos for Library Display

by ecc

October 24, 2018
BERGEN PARK FIRE STATION
7pm (6:30 SOCIAL TIME)

The Evergreen Camera Club has the exhibition wall in the Evergreen Library reserved for displaying our photographs in the month of November. This is a large space, and can easily hold 60-100 photos, depending on size and arrangement, so there is room for EVERYONE to show some of their work.

Photos can be in frames, or mounted on foam board, or whatever. They need not all be mounted the same. The main wall is fabric-covered wood, and nails can be driven into it to hang framed photos with hanging wire. The easiest way to display your photos is to mount then on foam board and use Velcro to stick them to the wall.

At the October 24th Tips and Techniques meeting we will be mounting prints on foam boards. ECC will provide the material and expertise so you can mount your photos for the exhibit. So, gather up your photos. Size can vary. Many photos need to be 8×10 or larger to show well. They can be much larger if you prefer. Depending on the subject and how much they grab attention via color or contrast, some could be smaller. Occasionally a 5×7 or maybe a panoramic view, say 4×11, would work.
This will be an excellent opportunity for members to bring their prints and get help mounting the prints to a backing suitable for display at the library.

Michael Cahoon – Masking, The Pathway to Digital Artistry

by ecc

Michael Cahoon is an experienced Photoshop user with lots of technical tricks up his sleeve.

This talk will focus on how various masking techniques in Photoshop and Lightroom can be used to address the wide dynamic range often found in photographs. Step-by-step procedures that selectively address how the tone of an image can be used to focus or defocus the viewer’s attention or create the balance between the foreground and sky that represents what the photographer saw.

PSA Image Analysis Workshop

PSA Image Analysis Workshop

Evergreen Camera Club and St. Vrain Photographic Society have joined forces to bring this critically important photography workshop to Evergreen! On Saturday, October 27, PSA (Photographic Society of America) Education Services Director and Instructor Jon Fishback will conduct “Image Analysis,” a course designed to improve your photography through the comprehensive analysis of photographs from all levels: from beginners to amateurs to masters.

Follow Up Report:
This event was an excellent collaboration between the St. Vrain and Evergreen Photo Clubs. Participants were instructed on and challenged to spontaneously analyze composition, lighting, color, impact, creativity and more. John Fishback was knowledgeable and personable providing an effective learning opportunity. Members rejoined the next day in Golden for his critique of our works.

Consider reading Jon Fishback’s short paper, “The Pain and Pleasure of Critical Analysis” on the PSA website (PSA-photo.org) or search on Google. Contact Ellen Nelson (ellen@ellennelson.com) if you have additional questions.

July 11th, 2018 General Meeting:
FREDRIK MARMSATER Outdoor Adventure Photographer

by ecc

You will get a workout just looking at Fredrik Marmsater’s photos! Freelance outdoor-adventure photographer Fredrik Marmsater will describe and display his amazing adventure photographs and spice up the presentation with his recent Sail-to-Ski trip to Svalbard at Evergreen Camera Club’s July 11th meeting. Join us at 7 pm at the Evergreen Fire & Rescue Building (1802 Bergen Parkway, Evergreen) for this exciting presentation.

Fredrik Marmsater is a reformed former scientist in the pharmaceutical industry and has catapulted into the outdoor-photography biz as one of its busiest shooters. His work is regularly featured in magazines and advertising in the outdoor industry. Fred is based in Boulder but specializes in shooting in remote locations and capturing athletes pushing their limits. During expedition skiing and long trail runs, he gets into beautiful and seldom-seen locations to bring back fresh images. Good luck keeping up with him, even when he’s loaded down with an extra 40 pounds of camera gear!

If you’d like to join us for dinner at Casa Tequila’s before the meeting, RSVP to the separate Meetup. We need a count by Tuesday evening.
