November 11th General Meeting: Take a Walk on the WIDE Side with Glenn Randall

by Ellen Nelson

What do you do when you are standing in front of an amazing vista and your camera does not come close to capturing the majesty of the scene? Watch Glenn Randall’s Take a Walk on the Wide Side presentation and learn how to compose, shoot, and stitch together single and multi-row photographic panoramas.

Glenn will explain how you can make stitched panoramas with your existing equipment – no purchase necessary! “Learning to shoot and stitch panoramas from multiple frames will open up a new world of photographic possibilities,” said Randall, a Boulder-based professional photographer and author of five impressive landscape photography books. “Take a walk on the wide side, and you’ll never again be content to see the world in just one way.”

October 14th 2020 General Meeting: A Personal Journey Towards Photo Advocacy with Scott Wilson

by ecc

A Personal Journey Towards Photo Advocacy

Scots-born photographer, Scott Wilson, dream move to Colorado in 2015 turned into a nightmare. A stage 4 cancer colon diagnosis threatened his life and his landscape photography pursuits when he developed chemo-induced photosensitivity.

Undeterred, Scott shot wildlife from the protective shade of his car and turned his new portfolio into a book – Through the Window – and a platform for his ‘photo advocacy.’

Scott is a multi-year finalist in the UK Landscape Photographer of the Year, a resident artist at the Denver Photo Art Gallery and was named “Denver Instagrammer of the Year” by Westword magazine. His work has been featured in a wide range of media, including Advanced Photographer, 5280 magazine, Denver Post, Denver Life, 303 Magazine, Denver 9News, CBS News, Fox Denver, the Photographer’s Guide to Scotland and the UK Daily Mail.

July 8th General Meeting: Seasons of Our Mountains Voting!

by ecc

Anonymous Voting Party for Members Only!

Now is an ideal time to join our club if you are not already a member – see all the images submitted by our community and make your opinion count. Scroll down for important details.

The Calendar Voting and Judging Process

Calendar voting to initially select 24 finalists from all entries will be done by the membership of the ECC club, out of whomever logs on for the Zoom call for our July meeting. Image entry was open to all, this voting will be by paid members only.

As the calendar competition is open to everyone, and many ECC members are expected to enter, certainly those individuals will be voting on their own images along with everyone else. The artist names will not be disclosed so at most, voters will recognize only 3 of the images out of however many we get (we expect 100-200). Thus we feel there will be minimal bias in this process.

Each image will get a score from 1 to 5 averaged from all votes cast in the zoom meeting to determine the 24 finalists. The finalists will then be voted on by the general public using the voting website tool used for last year’s competition (that link will be posted when the finalists have been uploaded).

Hopefully this will yield an impartially judged set of 12 images to comprise our final calendar, however, if we end up with some kind of imbalance, there is an editorial committee comprised of Mount Evans and ECC volunteers who may make minor adjustments to ensure a good end product (i.e. if say 4 images of elk were to get the best scores, we may only include one or two).

If you have some ideas about how this might be done better next year, please feel free to share them with webmaster@evergreencameraclub.com.

Member Voting Instructions

Display of submitted images and voting will begin at 7:00PM on July 8th. Setup and testing will be from 6:30 to 7.

We plan on having 4 different groups of images, divided by season. We will run through each group quickly so you can preview them and then go back through them by name for the voting step.

The images will be displayed via Zoom – you should dial in with the Zoom link using whatever device you have with the best display so you can see the entries clearly.

Voting will be done using Google Forms – a “forms.gle” link and QR code will be provided to get your browser to the voting sheet. You can use a separate device, like your phone, to go to this link so you can have a separate screen to make your selections. If you are using your phone, simply take a picture of the QR code and your phone will offer to take you to our voting sheet. Alternately you can use a browser and Zoom on the same device if you can manage the 2 windows.

It is not required but recommended that you place a vote for every image.

Links will be emailed to ECC Members prior to the meeting.

March 11th General Meeting: Deanna Beutler —
The Lives and Habits of Owls in the Wild

by ecc

Note: this event was originally scheduled for February 12 but had to be canceled due to snow, a perennial consequence of being in Evergreen

Wednesday, March 11 at 7:00 pm (6:30 social time)
Evergreen Fire and Rescue
1802 Bergen Parkway, Evergreen, CO

Pre-meeting Dinner 5:30 pm at
Wild Game
1802 Bergen Parkway

Deanna Beutler has spent the past 16 years hiking and photographing wildlife. She found her first owl nest in 2004 and the love of owls and photographing them has grown from there, along with her knowledge of owls.

She worked for “Wild Wings Environmental Education” from 2013 to 2018, where she worked with owls, hawks and falcons. While there, she manned informational booths, taught at schools, libraries, retirement centers, camps, special events, fundraisers and photo shoots. The organization’s goal was to teach the public how to protect these birds, their environment and raise money for the care of injured birds of prey.

She has taught classes at nature centers and Audubon Society events on the lives of owls and how to find them. She has served as a wildlife and owl guide for people throughout Colorado and as far away as Japan. Her photos were selected in the “Top 250” in Denver Audubon Society’s “Share the View International” photography contest 5 years in a row and she spoke at the Share the View International Gala. She has won 1st and 2nd place in several local photo contests. She has had 10 of her photos displayed on park signs and others published in magazines and books.
She also helps with the rescue of birds and animals.

Doors open at 6:30 for socializing. Members, guests and students welcome!
Join us for dinner at 5:15 with Deanna (by RSVP only)
